Attractions in and near the Plaza
The Fountains
- The force of the fountains varies from none to a low trickle through to full force where the jets are around 3-4 m high.
- The fountains are embeded into the plaza floor so you can walk amongst them either staying dry or getting soaked depending on the flow force. Kids love this. playing around in the puddles ar the lower force.
Archaeological and History Museum of Elche (MAHE)
Entrance to MAHE & Altamira Palace
- The Entrance is on Carrer de la Diagonal del Palau, 9, at the East end of the Plaza
- Because it is at Basement level access is via steps or the along side Lift better signed with the blue P Car Park sign & the name Sabor over the lift door
City Walls & Ditch
- On the Eastern side of the plaza are some ruined remains of the City Walls and beyond this the ditch
- Within the ditch is an interesting stone arch.
- On the far side of the ditch but below ground level is a wide building that is an exibition hall connection, between the Altamira Palace & the Archaeological and History Museum of Elche. Museo Arqueológico y de Historia de Elche (MAHE), the location of the ticket office & entrance for both locations.
- This building is the largest exibition room within MAHE.
